Welcome to Eclectic Literary Magazine!
This is our inaugural issue that marks the beginning of an online quarterly publication - a new space for both new and established writers.
Our mission is to offer readers fresh, well‑researched, and thought‑provoking nonfiction, short and flash fiction stories and essays that present an encouraging view of life, even as the characters face challenges, hardships, and unexpected turns. As someone once said,
“Words are singularly the most powerful force on the planet.”
Throughout history, stories have shaped how we think, how we act, and how we understand one another and the world around us. Our first issue commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
In this issue you’ll find stories and articles that explore how thirteen colonies - driven by a desire for religious, economic, and political freedom—united to challenge Great Britain, then the world’s most powerful military and naval force. Through resilience, courage, and an unwavering determination to live free of foreign domination, Americans fought to break the Crown’s control. Our first issue honors the people, the events and the efforts of this historic milestone.
My purpose and desire is to present stories and insights in this issue that offer readers new perspectives on a familiar chapter of American history. Each future issue will continue this tradition with its own distinct theme and will explore ideas and insights into a variety of subjects.
In this issue nonfiction pieces examine not only how Americans prevailed, who our heroes were and how they made defeating the British possible. The articles go in depth into the efforts and means by which the British were defeated and why the American Revolution still matters today. There’s also a short work of fiction rooted in spirituality - a principal cornerstone of the Pilgrims, early settlers, and Native American cultures. The essay written by our editorial team gives an analytical view of the historical significance of the development of the United States and how we became after 250 years the world’s most powerful nation of the 21st Century.
The 250th anniversary of the United States is far more than the annual celebration of the Declaration of Independence. It’s the most important document ever created by the founders of this country, or since. In essence, it’s the birth certificate of the United States of America.
You’ll find in my article ‘The Creation of the Declaration of Independence’, historical facts and details of how the Declaration was written. It also states how America went from thirteen colonies to being united as one independent nation. The Declaration emphatically states the colonies are free and independent states, no longer subject to the laws, authority or control of Great Britain. It also describes the grievances Americans had with the Crown that drove them to seek independence.
All of the articles have been carefully researched and written to inform, entertain and illuminate lesser-known details often overlooked in traditional education.
Eclectic Literary Magazine’s first issue celebrates our nation’s 250th anniversary by bringing new and interesting details to the attention of our readers that are rarely heard or read. And, each following issue will have its own distinct theme with fresh and well-researched articles to educate and enlighten readers with new information and perspectives about life and the world.
As the publisher of Eclectic Literary Magazine, I sincerely hope you will enjoy the articles we’ve presented. We look forward to your continuing readership. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Neill Spector, Publisher
